Tasting profile

Berry Bros & Rudd Whisky Profile

History

Berry Bros & Rudd can trace its roots back to 1698, when the Widow Bourne opened an Italian grocer at No.3 St James’s Street, London. Over time, the business became one of Britain’s most respected wine and spirits merchants.

Its spirits history runs deep too, with own-label cask bottlings recorded from the 19th century. That makes Berry Bros & Rudd a brilliant fit for a club tasting: old-school merchant history, independent bottlings, and enough heritage to make everyone briefly behave themselves.

Whisky Style

Berry Bros & Rudd bottlings usually lean towards balance, maturity and cask-led character rather than gimmicks. Expect a range that may include Speyside fruit, Highland richness, coastal smoke, sherry influence, refill elegance and the odd bottle that starts a table-wide debate.

The style is ideal for a tasting because it lets the spirit and cask do the talking. Translation: plenty to nose, plenty to argue about, and no need for anyone to pretend they can smell “Victorian mahogany” unless they really want to.

Notable Bottlings

  • Berry Bros & Rudd Own Selection
  • Exceptional Casks releases
  • Classic single cask and small batch Scotch releases
  • Blue Hanger blended malt
  • Historic Berry’s bottlings from well-known Scottish distilleries
  • Independent bottlings covering malt, grain and selected world whiskies.
