About the Glenugie Whisky Club

Glenugie Whisky Club is a Peterhead whisky club built around a simple idea: good whisky tastes better with good company.

We keep it friendly, respectful and relaxed, with the focus where it belongs: what’s in the glass, the people round the table, and the stories that come with both.

Expect tasting nights, bottle shares, distillery visits, proper whisky chat and the occasional brave tasting note that should probably never be repeated in public.

The club is for folk who enjoy learning, sharing, laughing and discovering something new without turning whisky into a competitive sport.

We like the classics, enjoy a good surprise, and firmly believe that whisky should be enjoyed, not overcomplicated.

Glenugie Club: The History

A Whisky Club from the Edge of the North Sea

A whisky club from the edge of the North Sea, founded by three pals, a shared weakness for a good dram, and the perfectly sensible belief that life is too short for poor whisky.

What started around a table with three glasses and one bottle has grown into a whisky club in Peterhead with 14 members, built on friendship, good company and proper whisky adventures.

A new spirit

Three pals, one shared weakness, and a perfectly sensible belief that life is too short for poor whisky. The club was founded in 2022 and expanded in 2024, not in a boardroom with agendas and voting slips, but around a solid table with three glasses and a bottle that deserved attention.

It started simply: a monthly excuse to sit down, switch off, and explore the finer points of whisky the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Not rushed. Not drowned in mixers. Not chased for status. Properly.

Each of the three founders brought something different. One was drawn to the history of lost distilleries and the stories behind closed gates and silent stills. One was fascinated by cask influence, fermentation, and the quiet science behind flavour. And one firmly believed that no decent bottle should ever be opened without good company.

What began as a small gathering soon gained momentum. Word spreads when the standard is high and the welcome is warm. Speyside versus Islay. Sherry against bourbon. Independent bottlers. Forgotten names. Blind tastings that occasionally humbled even the most confident nose.

Today, the club has grown to 18 members. Still grounded. Still built on friendship. Still focused on learning, sharing, and enjoying whisky the right way. It is not about collecting trophies or chasing auction prices. It is about sitting down together, pouring a dram, and taking the time to understand what is in the glass.

Founded on three friends and a shared respect for tradition. Now growing steadily, like any good cask left to mature properly. And if the first few years are anything to go by, this is only the beginning.

Club Motto: “Bile't”

In Doric, North East Scots, “bile't” is a phonetic spelling of the word “boiled”. In this context, “boiled” means drunk. Very drunk. No longer functional in any meaningful way. If you have a look, this has been incorporated in the club badge.

2025 November - Second club day out to GlenAllachie and Tomatin.
2026 March - Third club day out to Caledonian Cooperage and Gordon & MacPhail.
2026 April - Club reaches 14 members.
2026 May - GWC hosts its first tasting session with Rare Finds Whisky at the Palace Hotel.
2026 May - Club reaches 18 members after four more join following the Rare Finds tasting session.
2026 June - Murray McDavid tasting session booked for September.
2026 June - Berry Bros & Rudd tasting session booked for November.
